「まあまあの映画」の紹介

四匹の動物達（カバ、キリン、シマウマ、ライオン）はニューヨークのセントラル・パーク公園で暮らす仲良しだ。そしてこの日はシマウマのマーティの誕生日で、彼は願い事をする。マーティは誰かに尋ねられると、野生に戻られるように、と願いをしたと答える。するとカバのグロリアは、コネチカット州（ニューヨークの北の小さな州）には動物が自然に戻って生活することの出来る場所があるという。そしてそこに行くには、マーティはただグランド・セントラル駅からメトロ・ノースという電車を乗るだけだ。何とマーティは本当にその話を信じ、動物園を脱走するのだった。それを知った彼の友達のアレックス（ライオン）、メルマン（キリン）そしてグロリアは、マーティを追っていざグランド・セントラル駅へと急ぐのだった。ところが彼等はコネチカットに到着する前に捕まってしまう。動物園に送り返されると思いきや、目が覚めるとそこは船の上、どこか遠い場所への旅の途中だった。
　この劇場用アニメはまさしく子供用でしょうね。たとえどのような視聴者を想定していようと、この映画のシナリオはかなりメチャクチャです。タイトルでもわかるように、この動物達はアフリカにやがて到着します。でも彼等が捕まった後、何故アフリカに送られることになったのかということが映画では全く説明されていません。

Four animals (hippo, giraffe, zebra and lion) at New York City's Central Park Zoo are best friends with each other. On his birthday, Marty (zebra) makes his wish. When asked about his wish, he tells others that he wishes that he could go back to the wild. That sounds like a dream. Then Gloria (hippo) says that there is a place in Connecticut where space of wild nature is open to animals. So all what Marty has to do is go to Grand Central station and take a Metro North train. And that's exactly what Marty does. When they find out that Marty has set out on his journey, Alex (lion), Melman (giraffe) and Gloria are also headed for Grand Central Station. They do get caught before reaching Connecticut. But when they wake up, they find out that they are on a journey to somewhere else.
     This animated movie is probably for only kids. No matter what kind of audience they target it to, it really has a bizarre scenario totally out of reality. These animals are, as the title suggests, end up arriving in Madagascar. But there is no explanation given as to how they end up heading to Africa after getting caught at the station.
