「まあまあの映画」の紹介

1999年、人を殺すことを目的として訓練されたアーロン・ハラムは特殊部隊の一員として旧ユーゴスラビアのコソボで活躍し、勲章を得る。その後除隊し、オレゴン州のシルバー・フォールズの山の中でシカ狩りの男達を次々と殺していく。地元の郡警察は、アーロンを一から人殺しのロボットに鍛え上げたボンハム少尉に応援を要請。ボンハムはアーロンをすぐにも捕まえる。しかしアーロンはやがて逃亡の身となるのだった。
　この映画が何故そんなに駄目かと言うと、まず、ベニスィオ・デル・トロの不自然な演技でしょう。この人が「トラフィック（2000年）」でアカデミー賞・助演男優賞をとったとは全く信じられません。特に彼の演技のひどい場面が、自分の元恋人の娘と外で会話する場面です。
　ひどいのはこの人の演技だけではありません。脚本自体未完成で、その原因は映画の長さにもあるでしょう。ほんの1時間34分で、それも最初の10分ぐらいはコソボのシーンに使われています。トミー・リー・ジョウンズはこの映画でも逃亡者を追う役ですが、逃亡者を追うと言えば、彼がU.S. Marshallの副警部を演じた「逃亡者（1993年）」の方が数段上です。尚、「逃亡者」の映画の長さは2時間7分です。それと比べても、この映画の長さはちょっと内容に合っていないのではないでしょうか。
　この映画で良いと言ったら、奇麗なConnie Nielsen（「グラディエーター」、「Great Raid」、「The Ice Harvest」）が登場するぐらいのものですね。

After coming back from a war zone in Kosovo in 1999 with a silver medal of valor, trained ex-Special-Forces assassin Aaron Hallam becomes a killing machine. Back in Silver Falls, Oregon, Hallam kills deer hunters in woods. Local sheriff's office contacts L.T. Bonham, who virtually trained Aaron from a scratch. Bonham quickly helps them capture Hallam, but he becomes at large again.
     What's so bad about this movie is Benicio Del Toro's unnatural performance. It's hard to believe that he once won an Oscar in Best Supporting Actor. He does a terrible job especially at the scene where he talks with his girlfriend's daughter.
     Not just his performance, the story itself is quite pre-mature and horrible partly due to the length of the movie. Tommy Lee Jones chasing a fugitive again? Harrison Ford's 'The Fugitive (1993)' is an excellent movie where Tommy Lee Jones plays the role of Deputy U.S. Marshall Samuel Gerard, but this movie is no match.
     Furthermore, the film doesn't even seem to last for 1 hour and 34 minutes. Apparently, the biggest mistake of all is the length of the movie. Actually, they spent too much time for the meaningless battle scene.
