4. Using T-Styles

The main window comes with a large listbox, which shows text style profiles you have created.  This listbox should be blank when you first start out with T-Styles.  In order to create a new text style profile, choose Text Style > Add Text Style.  Or click on the Add button at the bottom of the window.  (See Screenshot 4-01.)  As shown in Screenshot 4-02, a small window will pop up, showing default text style settings.  You can freely make changes.  If you are finished, click on the Create button.

After you click on the Create button, notice that T-Styles has added a new row to the listbox.  The first column of the list show the text color of the given text style that is denoted in the hexadecimal value.  (See Screenshot 4-03.)  The second column shows the text font.  The third column shows the text size.  If the given text style is in bold, then you will see a green symbol under Bold.  If it's a red symbol, then it's not in bold.

If you want to delete any of the text style profiles, simply choose one to delete in the list.  Then click on the Delete button, which is located right next to the Add button.  If you have the Confirm text style deletion checkbox enabled in Preferences, you will be prompted for confirmation, accordingly.  (See Screenshot 4-04.)  If you want to delete all text style profiles, then choose Tex Style > Delete All.

By this time, you should have noticed that the main window is divided into two parts.  You have a listbox to the left.  If you click on any of the text style profiles you have created, its detailed settings will appear to the right.  In fact, the group box to the right is where you can edit the selected text style profile.  As the sample text field is small, if necessary, click on the button right above it to open the Text Viewer window.  (See Screenshots 4-05, 4-06.)  This window is resizable, and whenever you make changes in the editor box, styled text in this window will also be updated.  Furthermore, it's an independent window, separate from the main one.  If you want the Text Viewer window to follow the other, choose Text Viewer > Text Viewer to Follow.  (See Screenshot 4-07.)  And the text Viewer window will follow the main window.

The editor box gives the detailed settings of the selected text style profile.  So if you click on another text style in the list, the values in this box will inevitably change.  So don't forget to click on the Update button at the bottom to save changes to the selected text style.  (See Screenshot 4-08.)  If you have enabled the Confirm text style update checkbox enabled in Preferences, you will be prompted for confirmation.  (See Screenshot 4-09.)

So what can you do with these text styles you have in the list?  If you select one in the list and choose Text Style > Open With Text Edit, T-Styles will open a new TextEdit document and paste the text style along with sample text.  (See Screenshots 4-10, 4-11.)  T-Styles will do its best in sending the right text color.  But it can sometimes fail as far as text color is concerned.  Similarly, if you have Microsoft Word, you can also send the selected text style to it, creating a new document.  Open With MSWord will become accessible only if Microsoft Word is currently running.  Furthermore, a Microsoft Word document may not get the right text size from T-Styles.  By the way, you can also click on the Copy button (See Screenshot 4-12.) to copy styled text into the clipboard so that you can paste it manually with documents of other applications.
