SplitMe is a simple Mac-only application that allows users to split movie files, archives (.zip) and disc images (.dmg). SplitMe doesn't just literally split files. When you work on movie files, for example, each split segment will become an independent video clip, which, of course, you can open by double-clicking on it. Likewise, if you work on archives, each split segment will become an independent zip file and can be independently unpacked.
SplitMe consists of 4 parts. Use SplitMovie to split movie files into multiple independent video clips. SplitZip allows users to split zip archives into smaller, independent archives. SplitImg1 and SplitImg2 both allow users to split disc images (DMGs), whether compressed, encrypted or non-encrypted, into multiple, smaller parts.
- Movie imports: AVI*, DIV**, MOV, MP4, M4V, MPG, MPEG*** (MPEG2 Playback required), WMV (Flip4Mac required)
- Archive imports: ZIP
- Disc image imports: DMG (compressed, encrypted, non-encrypted)
SplitMe will not decode MKV (Matroska).
* The user may not be able to import AVI files under Mac OS X 10.6.
** DivX Decoder by DIVX is required. The user may not be able to import DIVX video files under Mac OS X 10.6.
*** The user may not be able to import MPEG files under Mac OS X 10.6.
Please note that SplitMe may fail to split movie files if they are not properly packed and compressed.
What you can do with SplitMe:
- The user can split a single movie file into multiple independent video clips (up to 49 files in equal length + one file with the remaining length), each of which can be opened with QuickTime. If an imported movie file does not come with the MOV container (in the case of AVI, DIVX, M4V, MP4, MPEG...), then split video clips will all be automatically put in the MOV container.
- The user can split a single zip file into multiple independent archives, each of which can be unpacked.
- The user can split a single disc image (DMG), whether it's compressed or encrypted, into multiple segments in terms of the segment size.
- The user can split a single disc image (DMG), whether it's compressed or encrypted, into multiple segments in terms of the number of segments.
