1. Installing and uninstalling QuickMarks

Please read the README file that comes with the application.  Or click here to download one.

2. Introduction

What is QuickMarks?  It's a simple application that will let you maintain and organize bookmarks.  In order to add a bookmark, all you have to do is drag and drop a selection of URL text or a fav icon onto application's drop box.  When you import a new bookmark, QuickMarks will automatically find the Google PageRank of the corresponding URL.

If you want to find the PageRanks of more than one URL, you can use QuickMarks' query function.  Query's PageRanks will let you find the Google PageRanks of any number of URLs.  And you can export the result to a text file, which can be easily opened with Microsoft Excel and other applications.

3. Preferences

When you first launch any new application, it's always a good idea for you to open Preferences.  Okay, why not?  Let's open Preferences from the menu bar under QuickMarks.  (See Screenshot 3-1.)

Let's see what we have under the Settings tab.  (See Screenshot 3-2.)  If you enable Run update notification, QuickMarks will access our web server to see if there are any software updates available every time you launch the application.  Enable Require restart if you want to automatically let the application relaunch itself after you close Preferences.  Furthermore, enable Confirm URL deletion if you want to confirm before deleting a URL profile.  Also, enable Confirm list deletion if you want to confirm before deleting a URL list.

4. Using QuickMarks

In order to list a bookmark, the easiest way is to take URL text from a web browser.  Simply, make a selection on the URL strip of a web browser.  Then grab, drag and drop the selection, which becomes clipped text under Mac OS X, onto application's top drop box.  (See Screenshot 4-1.)  You can also grab, drag and drop a fav icon onto application's drop box.  If the clipped text starts with 'http://,' QuickMarks should accept it.  As a result, QuickMarks will list your URL drop, immediately finding the Google PageRank corresponding to it.

Whenever you import a bookmark, QuickMarks adds two buttons to application's window.  The one to the left shows the Google PageRank of the URL.  (See Screenshot 4-2.)  If it's blank, then that means that the corresponding URL doesn't return a page rank.  You can click on the PageRank button to see the latest.  (See Screenshots 4-3 and 4-4,)  Furthermore, the button to the right is the title of a URL profile.  When you first add a URL, then it's simply the URL itself.  It's a button, and if you click on it, your default web browser will access the corresponding URL.

If you want to edit the title of a URL such that it will be more descriptive, first, hold down the control key and then click on the URL button.  And a contextual menu will appear.  Then choose Edit URL.  (See Screenshot 4-5.)  A new window will open accordingly.  Now, you can name the title of the URL.  (See Screenshot 4-6.)  If you write up a few sentences under Description, they will appear as a help tag whenever you place the Mouse pointer over the URL button.  (See Screenshot 4-7.)  Finally, click on the Update button to finalize changes.  By clicking on it, QuickMarks will also automatically update the Google PageRank of the URL.  So if you change the URL, the page rank is also likely to change.

If you want to delete a URL profile, similarly, control-click on the URL button in question and choose Delete URL.  (See Screenshot 4-8.)  If you have 'Confirm URL deletion' enabled in Preferences, you will get a confirmation window.  (See Screenshot 4-9.)  Or QuickMarks will instantly delete the URL.
