7a) General settings

The initial release comes with five checkboxes under the General settings.  (See Screenshot 1-24.)  Let's quickly go over each of them.

  • Launch application with default window dimensions: By default, Planet Factory keeps track of the window dimensions whenever you resize it.  And it will restore them whenever you restart the application.  If you turn on this checkbox, however, Planet Factory will start with the default window dimensions.

  • Don't show introduction at startup: When you launch Planet Factory, it will open its introductory screen.  Turn on this checkbox to launch the application without it.

  • Don't prompt me for confirmation when deleting a planet: When you click on the Delete label at the bottom-left corner of the main application, you will be prompted for confirmation.  Turn on this checkbox if you want to delete a planet without confirmation.

  • Include background when saving solar system as image: If you turn on this checkbox, after clicking on the save system to disk, the export window sheet will appear with the Include background color checkbox on.

  • Don't prompt me for confirmation when starting a new solar system: When you start a new solar system from a scratch by choosing New under File, by default, you will be prompted for confirmation.  Or turn on this checkbox to start a new solar system without confirmation.

7b) Folders: There are two group boxes under this tab.  (See Screenshot 1-25.)  The drop-down menu inside the top group box is used to specify the default open-folder path.  When you attempt to open a project file by choosing Open under File, this path applies.  By default, it's set to Documents.  Explore the drop-down menu and choose Other... to set an alternative default path.  (See Screenshot 1-26.)

The drop-down menu inside the second group box is used to select the default path for saving project files to your disk.  It also applies when you save a project file by choosing Save Progress As... under File.  The default path is set to Documents as well.

7c) Export: Under this tab, you can set your default export format and JPEG compression rate.  (See Screenshot 1-27.)  The default export format is PNG.  So if nothing is selected, Planet Factory will automatically choose PNG.  And the default compression rate is set to 85%.

When you finish configuring default settings, click on Save.  And Planet Factory will save changes.  If you instead click on Close, Planet Factory will close this window without saving changes.
